St.Martinville History

The city of Saint Martinville is the parish seat of Saint Martin Parish. It is located in the Lafayette metro area. This city lies between the Atchafalaya River, the Gulf of Mexico and the Trinity River. Numerous Native American tribes once occupied this area. Europeans began to arrive around 1600 and the city was founded in 1699.
