Introduction to Kennebunk, Maine
Kennebunk, Maine, in York county, is 24 miles SW of Portland, Maine and 75 miles N of Boston, Massachusetts. The town’s population is approximately 10,476.
Kennebunk History
The town developed as a trading, shipbuilding and shipping center in its early history. The town was incorporated in 1820. The name Kennebunk means “long cut bank” in the language of the Abenaki Indians. It referred to the long bank behind the Kennebunk beach.
