Presque Isle, Maine is 235 miles NE of Portland, Maine and 334 miles NE of Boston, Massachusetts. It is in Aroostook County. The population of the city is 9,511.
Presque Isle History
Presque Isle was originally known as Fairbanks. The city was founded by Dennis Fairbanks and was first settled in by Europeans in 1828. It was incorporated on April 4, 1859, when it adopted its current name. The city derived its name from a French term meaning "peninsula." The city became largely dependent on agriculture in the late 19th century. The New Brunswick Railroad first entered the city in 1881. It annexed the town of Maysville in 1883. The Bangor and Aroostook Railroad first arrived in the city in 1895. Presque Isle was reincorporated as a city on January 1, 1940.

While in Presque Isle, one can visit the Bicentennial Park, Aroostook State Park, Peace Park, Veterans Memorial Park and Aroostook State Park. The Arnold Brook Lake Recreation Area is also a popular tourist destination. One can also visit the Northern Maine Museum of Science or the Nylander Museum while in Preaque Isle as well. Golfers can enjoy a round at the Presque Isle Country Club.
