Mount Airy, Maryland, in Frederick county, is 14 miles E of Frederick, Maryland (center to center) and 28 miles W of Baltimore, Maryland. The town is home to some 6,425 residents.

Mount Airy History

Mount Airy was founded in 1830. Its first house was built by Henry Bussard. Originally served by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, the towns' name was suggested by an Irish man, who worked for the railroad. The Ridge Presbyterian Church was established in 1846. Mount Airy, which grew considerably in the period leading up to the 1890s, is located partially in Carroll County, which was created in 1837 and partially in Frederick County, which was established in 1748.

The Watkins Park, Prospect Avenue Park, Mount Airy Historic District, and Mount Airy Carnival Grounds are located in the town. Two local shopping centers are the Mount Airy Shopping Center and the Twin Arch Shopping Center. Local celebrations include Fall Festival and May Fest.
