Southbridge, Massachusetts, in Worcester county, is 17 miles SW of Worcester, Massachusetts and 53 miles W of Boston, Massachusetts. Part of the surrounding Worcester metro area, Southbridge is home to some 17,214 residents.
Southbridge History
The original inhabitants of this area where the Mohegan and Nipmuck tribes of Native Americans. The first Europeans settled in this area in 1730 and it was incorporated as a town in 1816. A number of grist and saw mills were built in this area because of the availability of water power from the Quinebaug River.
