Corinth History

Corinth was established in 1853 as Cross City. It was a junction for the Mobile and Ohio and the Memphis and Charleston railroads. The name Corinth was suggested by W.E.Gibson. Corinth was named after the city in Greece, which also played the role of a crossroad. During the Civil War, the Confederacy relied on Corinth because of its situation at the junction of two railroads.
