Waynesboro, Mississippi, in Wayne county, is located 76 miles NW of Mobile, Alabama (center to center) and is 146 miles NE of New Orleans, Louisiana. The city has a population of 5,197.
Waynesboro History
The city of Waynesboro was named after Gen. Mad Anthony Wayne, who was born in Wayneborough and served as a General in the United States Army. The city was previously known as Mount Vernon and got its current name in the year 1797. However, the place was initially incorporated as the town of Waynesburg in the year 1818, and was later reincorporated as Waynesboro in 1831. The first expressway was built in the year 1816 between Baltimore and Pittsburgh.
