Yazoo City History
Named after the river Yazoo, the city was founded in 1824. Originally, the name of the city was Hanna’s Bluff, however was given its current name in the year 1839. The Native Americans were among the first settlers in this region. They were followed by the French. The city became the county seat in the year 1849. After the French took over the city, several developments took place like the building of railroads and other constructions.
