Bolivar History
The original settlers of this area migrated from Bolivar, which is located in southwestern Tennessee. According to some sources, the city was named after the place in Tennessee, while other sources state that Bolivar was named in honor of General Simon Bolivar, the South American historical figure who was better known as El Libertador. Bolivar became a city in 1835 and is the county seat of Polk County, Missouri.
