Belmar, New Jersey, in Monmouth county, is 9 miles NE of Brick, New Jersey and 38 miles S of New York, New York.There are 6,045 residents in the town.

Belmar History

In the mid 1800s, around 25 investors built a summer community in the area that is now known as Belmar. This location was preferred because of its proximity to the sea, giving residents the opportunity to fish. Belmar was officially incorporated as Ocean Beach borough in 1885. The community derives its current name from an Italian term meaning beautiful sea.

Things To Do In Belmar

Belmar has a number of beaches and is a popular destination for surfers. It hosts the New Jersey Seafood Festival every June, the Sandcastle Contest every July and the Fall Harvest Festival every October. Ferruggiaro Park, Maclearie Park and Three Acre Park are the local parks. The Belmar Marina is located near the mouth of Shark River, and offers boat-renting facilities and the opportunity to enjoy water sports like surfing, swimming, kayaking and fishing. The Cattus Island County Park offers opportunities for picnicking, crabbing, fishing and hiking.
