East Rutherford, New Jersey, in Bergen county, is 2 miles SE of Passaic, New Jersey (center to center) and 7 miles NE of Newark, New Jersey. The town has a population of 8,716.
East Rutherford History
It is believed that present day East Rutherford was once home to dinosaurs in the Triassic age, because the sandstones in this region bear the impression of dinosaurs. On April 17, 1889, the area was incorporated as "Boiling Spring Township", a name which was influenced by the presence of a powerful spring of cold water. On May 23, 1893, the community's name was changed to "East Rutherford". Over the years, the town has developed into a successful business and industrial hub.

East Rutherford is close to a number of historic sites including the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine, the Empire State Building, Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace National Historic Site, Edison National Historic Site, and the Rockefeller Center.
