Introduction to Keyport, New Jersey
Keyport, New Jersey, in Monmouth county, is 5 miles NW of Middletown, New Jersey and 21 miles S of Newark, New Jersey. About 7,568 people live in Keyport.
Keyport History
In 1714, the Kearny family settled in the area and established a plantation featuring timber and produce. This plantation was auctioned off more than a century later, and the community of Keyport was established in 1830. It developed into a major shipping and shipbuilding center over the next few decades. The town of Keyport was formed on March 17, 1870. One of the pioneering aviation companies, the Aeromarine Plan & Motor Company, operated in Keyport from 1917 to 1937. On April 2, 1908, Keyport was reincorporated as a borough. The community is nicknamed the "Gateway to the Bayshore" or the "Pearl of the Bayshore".

Things To Do In Keyport
Keyport is home to the Steamboat Dock Museum and the Keyport Fire Museum. The Steamboat Dock Museum houses historically important artifacts and memorabilia, while the Keyport Fire Museum has equipment from the 19th century on display. The Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park features the Empire Fulton Ferry as well as a 9-acre waterfront park. At the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park, visitors can enjoy fishing, boating, hiking, picnicking, horseback riding and biking.
