Northfield, New Jersey, in Atlantic County, is 26 miles E of Vineland, New Jersey and 51 miles SE of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The city’s population is 7,725.

Northfield History

Northfield was formed from parts of Egg Harbor Township, which was established sometime around 1693. Dutch immigrants arrived in 1614, becoming the first Europeans to inhabitant the area. The community was known as Bakersville before it was incorporated as the city of Northfield on March 21, 1905.

Local museums include the Brigantine Beach Historical Museum, the Ocean City Historical Museum, the Sea Isle City Historical Museum, and the Sam Azeez Museum of Woodbine Heritage. The Cape May County Historical Museum houses artifacts and memorabilia which reflect the Native American and maritime history of the region. The 234-acre Cape May County Park includes a zoo, nature trails, playgrounds, and picnic areas. Local golfers can enjoy a round at the Atlantic City Country Club. Leaming's Run Gardens, the Adventure Aquarium, and the Philadelphia Zoo are some of the other popular attractions in the area.
