Ocean Township was incorporated on February 21, 1849. Originally, it was a part of the Shrewsbury Township. It also included parts of Asbury Park borough, Allenhurst, Long Branch Commission, Loch Arbour, Monmouth Beach, Eatontown, Neptune Township, Sea Bright, Deal and Interlaken.
