Oceanport, New Jersey, in Monmouth County, is 7 miles SE of Middletown, New Jersey and 29 miles S of New York, New York. The town is home to some 5,807 residents.
Oceanport History
Oceanport was formed from parts of Eatonton Township on April 6, 1920. During the Revolutionary War, George Washington’s army battled the British forces under the command of Sir Henry Clinton, in what came to be known as the Battle of Monmouth. The battle took place on June 28, 1778 and is said to have been the longest battle fought in the war.
