Introduction to Paramus, New Jersey
The name of this region comes from a Lenape Native American word that means "place of fertile soil" or "land of the wild turkey." During the American Revolutionary War this area saw a great deal of activity. During World War II, the United States Army closed off Farview Avenue, which is situated at the highest point of Paramus and provides a clear view of the New York City skyline. The Army positioned its anti-aircraft artillery along the street so that they could defend New York City against any air attack.
