Introduction to Rumson, New Jersey
Rumson, New Jersey, in Monmouth county, is 6 miles E of Middletown, New Jersey (center to center) and 25 miles S of New York, New York. The town has a population of 7,137.
Rumson History
The area now known as Rumson, was originally known as "Navarumsunk", a name given by the Native Americans. However, it was shortened to "Rumson" in 1663. The community was officially incorporated as a borough in 1907. Besides "Rumson", the area was also known as Port Washington, Black Point and Oceanic. The area was purchased by the English settlers in pieces. The first was purchased on January 25th, 1665 and the rest was purchased in parts on April 7th and June 5th, 1665.

Things To Do In Rumson
Staten Island Zoo, Staten Island Botanical Garden and New York Aquarium have an array of interesting flora and fauna on display. Several museums located in the area including Havens Homestead Museum, Point Pleasant Historical Society Museum, Steamboat Dock Museum, Historic Richmond Town and Scandinavian East Coast Museum, all of which have historical artifacts on display. Poricy Park Conservancy, Highland Beach and Sea Bright Beach offer provisions for various recreational activities.
