West Long Branch, New Jersey, in Monmouth County, is 8 miles SE of Middletown, New Jersey and 31 miles S of New York, New York. There are an estimated 8,258 people in the town.
West Long Branch History
The region that now comprises West Long Branch was known by a variety of names, including Hoppersville, Mechanicsville and Branchburg. A map from 1889 recorded the area as West Long Branch School District and West Long Branch P.O. The townspeople were unhappy about paying taxes to Eatontown, so they requested annexation. Eatontown Township initially resisted because of the wealth in West Long Branch, but on June 16, 1908, West Long Branch became independent.
