West Milford, New Jersey, in Passaic county, is 15 miles N of Wayne, New Jersey and 29 miles N of Newark, New Jersey. The town is included in the Bergen - Passaic metropolitan area. As of the year 2000 census, 26,410 people lived in West Milford.

West Milford History

Originally West Milford was known as New Milford. It was settled by the Dutch. These settlers built another town by the name of New Milford in eastern Bergen County. This eventually led to the renaming of the original New Milford into West Milford, when both towns applied for a post office at the same time in 1828. The area was incorporated as a municipality in March of 1834.
