Islip Terrace History

Islip Terrace was originally a woodland situated between East Islip and Central Islip State Hospital. Until the end of the 19th century, the present-day territory of Islip Terrace had only a few farmhouses. The area witnessed development when real estate agent Andrew Wolpert began building houses in the region in 1914. He named the area Germantown in order to attract Germans. However, due to the political conditions during and after World War I, the community was renamed Islip Terrace in December of 1922.
