Lakeview, New York, in Nassau County, is 2 miles SW of Hempstead, New York and 17 miles E of New York, New York. As of the year 2000 census, 5,607 people lived in Lakeview.
Lakeview History
The Dutch were the first European inhabitants in this region. In the mid 17th century, groups of New Englanders arrived in this area. According to some sources, Lakeview was initially known as Woodfield.

The Tackapausha Museum and Preserve houses exhibits depicting the habitats and wildlife of Long Island. Old Westbury Gardens, the former estate of John S. Phipps, is a historic site located near Lakeview. Brooklyn Heights Promenade offers views of the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty and downtown Manhattan, and is also accessible from Lakeview. The Maple Hill Golf Club is the local golf course.
