West Point, New York is 26 miles W of Danbury, Connecticut (center to center) and 45 miles N of New York, New York. It is in Orange county. The population of the town is 7,138.

West Point History

West Point, which was a fortified site during the Revolutionary War, was controlled by a garrison of Continental soldiers throughout the war. The United States Military Academy was formed in West Point in 1802, and in 1937, the West Point Bullion Depository was created. In 1988, the Depository was renamed as the West Point Mint. West Point is often referred to simply as ‘The Point’.

Things To Do In West Point

Visitors to West Point may visit several parks such as The Parade, Michie Stadium, and Mohansic State Park. Chapels located in West Point include Old Cadet Chapel, Jewish Chapel, Catholic Chapel, and Cadet Chapel. Mine Lake and Popolopen Lake are also nice places to visit on a quiet evening. Opportunities to play golf are available at West Point Golf Course. Constitution Island, located across the Hudson River, has great historical significance. The Constitution Marsh Sanctuary has interesting specimens of the areas flora and fauna.
