Albemarle, North Carolina, in Stanly county, is 21 miles E of Concord, North Carolina (center to center) and 37 miles E of Charlotte, North Carolina.About 15,680 people live in Albemarle.
Albemarle History
The area now known as the City of Albemarle was originally settled by the mound-building and hunter-gathering Native Americans. It was first settled by the Europeans in the mid 1700s. The area's first post office was established in 1826. At that time, it was named Smith's Store and was part of Montgomery County. Later in 1841, it was ceded to the newly formed Stanly County. Soon after, the city became the county seat of Stanly County. Albemarle was incorporated in 1857 and renamed in honor of George Monck, the Duke of Albemarle.

Albemarle has several well maintained parks and a soccer complex including City Lake Park, Rock Creek Park, Montgomery Park, Albemarle Soccer Complex, and Ingram Park. Golf enthusiasts can spend their leisure time at the Mt. Brook Golf Course. The city also offers several shopping centers such as Albemarle Mall, Eastgate Shopping Center, and Quenby Mall. Albemarle's Parks and Recreation Department also sponsors and organizes several special events throughout the year.

Albemarle Higher Education
Stanly Community College is located in the city. Other universities and colleges that offer facilities for higher studies are the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, High Point University, and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.
