Elon College, North Carolina is 16 miles E of Greensboro, North Carolina (center to center) and 54 miles NW of Raleigh, North Carolina. It is located in Alamance County and is part of the Greensboro - - Winston - Salem - - High Point metro area. The population of Elon College is 6,738.
Elon College History
The Town of Elon College, which is now known as "Elon", changed its name on June 1st, 2001, when Elon College became Elon University. A train depot was established in 1881, and the town was originally served by the North Carolina Rail Road. The first post office was established in 1888. Both the college and the town were named after the local oak trees.

The town of Elon College offers easy access to numerous museums like the Greensboro Historical Museum, Graham Historical Museum, Richard Petty Museum, and Green Hill Center for North Carolina Art. The Jordan Lake State Recreation Area features nature trails and picnic areas and also offers facilities for swimming, fishing, boating, hiking, and camping. Another popular park is the Eno River State Park. The Greensboro Arboretum, and Emerald Pointe Water Park are other notable attractions close to Elon College.
