Havelock History

The modern day City of Havelock was originally named Havelock Station. It was named after Sir Henry Havelock, a British war hero of the Indian Rebellion of 1857. The Atlantic and North Carolina railroad first entered the area in the late 1850s. The Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point was also established in the city in 1940. Havelock was officially incorporated in 1959.

Havelock offers more than 100 acres of parks and open spaces to its residents and visitors. You can visit the Walter B Jones Park, Sermons Park, City Park, Waterfront Park, South Forest Park, and Village Park. Some of the local shopping centers are the Havelock Shopping Center, Cherry Plaza Shopping Center, Commercial Shopping Center, Slocum Village Shopping Center, and Gateway Shopping Center.
