Siler City History
Siler City, which was first settled in the 1750s, was incorporated as a town on March 7, 1887. The town is located in Chatham County, which was created in 1771. The county, which was originally part of Orange County, was named in honor of the 1st Earl of Chatham. The first settlers of the county were English Quakers. Siler City is also the hometown of Frances Bavier, an American actress well known for her role as Aunt Bee in "The Andy Griffith Show."
