Barberton, Ohio, in Summit county, is 6 miles SW of Akron, Ohio (center to center) and 34 miles S of Cleveland, Ohio. The city is included in the Akron metropolitan area. As of the year 2000 census, 27,899 people lived in Barberton.

Barberton History

The area now known as Barberton was founded in the year 1891 by Ohio Columbus Barber, president of the Diamond Match Company. He built a magnificent estate and industrial farm on the east side of Barberton. In fact, the city is also named after him. Moreover, the beautiful Lake Anna, which lies in the center of Barberton City, was named after Barber's daughter. Barberton was incorporated in 1891.
