Bedford Heights, Ohio, in Cuyahoga county, is 10 miles E of Parma, Ohio (center to center) and 10 miles SE of Cleveland, Ohio. The city, which is in the Cleveland - Lorain - Elyria area, has 11,375 residents.

Bedford Heights History

This region was once a part of the Western Reserve of Connecticut, and was purchased by the Connecticut Land Company in 1795. The land was considered particularly valuable due to abundant waterpower and lush timber. Elijah Nobles, the first settler, arrived in 1813. The township of Bedford, which was created on April 7, 1823, included the present-day communities of Oakwood Village, Maple Heights, Bedford, Bedford Heights, and Walton Hills. Bedford Heights became an independent community and was officially incorporated as a village on February 20, 1951. In 1958, Bedford Heights was granted city status, and the charter took effect in 1960.

Bedford Heights offers easy access to the James A. Garfield National Historic Site, the mansion where the 20th President of United States spent the last few years of his life. Cleveland Museum of Natural History houses collections of specimens related to zoology, wildlife biology, astronomy, geology, paleontology, and botany. At the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, visitors can view exhibits of musical instruments, audio, handwritten lyrics, and other memorabilia celebrating 50 years of music.
