Belpre History
Belpre is situated in Washington county, Ohio. Originally called Belle Prairie or "Beautiful Prairie", the city’s existence is linked to the Ohio River. The earliest settlers journeyed down the river and made Belpre the second American settlement in 1789. Belpre has grown steadily over the years with businesses such as truck farming and plastics anchoring the economy during the 1950s and 1960s.
