Idabel, Oklahoma, in McCurtain county, is 96 miles N of Longview, Texas and 137 miles NE of Dallas, Texas. There are 6,952 residents in the city.
Idabel History
Idabel was originally known as Pernell. It was later renamed after the wife of John Randolph Dillon, an executive and engineer of the Missouri Kansas Texas Railroad. The city is the county seat of McCurtain County.

Idabel is home to the Museum of the Red River, while the Muscle Car Legends Museum and the McCurtain County Veteran's Memorial Museum are both nearby as well. The Red Slough Wildlife Management Area and the Little River National Wildlife Refuge provide amenities for several different types of recreation. The Beavers Bend State Park also offers facilities for camping, biking, horseback riding, fishing, boating, golfing and swimming. The Jumper Shopping Center and the Choctaw Village Shopping Center are the local shopping destinations. The city hosts the Fall Fest every October.
