What may at first glance appear to be an Oklahoma Ghost Town is the small town and community of Spavinaw that refuses to die despite of its out of the way location. Located in the North Eastern part of the state and in the foothills of the Ozarks, getting here is truly half the journey and worth the trip alone. Once you arrive the heart of this community will give you the true meaning of Americana.

Affectionately known as Copperhead Road, the stretch of highway 82/20 that leads into Spavinaw has 69 curves in 14 miles which allows for the driver to slow down and relax as they enjoy the scenery. Located on the southern end of the town is Spavinaw State Park with 86 camp sights both primitive and RV accessible with two modern restroom facilities and a shower room as well as having two pavilions for group gatherings. Here campers can enjoy fishing and swimming with abundant room for both. The upper Lake area of Spavinaw does not allow swimming but has several public accessible boat ramps and offers excellent fishing.

Copperhead Mall located in Spavinaw offers some of the best smoked barbeque in the area and just down the road is the Hamburger Joint with a large choice of old fashioned milkshakes and parfaits not to mention a pretty mean cheeseburger. For those who choose to wet their whistles with an alcoholic beverage the Old Sportsmen Bar is a nice quiet place to set back and enjoy a cold beer.
