Newport History

Newport is the county seat of Lincoln County, which was founded on February 20, 1893. The city was named after Newport, Rhode Island. It was officially founded on July 4, 1866. The first post office of the area was established in 1868. Newport was incorporated as a city on October 23, 1882.
