Prospect Park History
This region was once known as "Moore". Both the Dutch and Swedes fought to control the area. During colonial times, the strategically advantageous position of the community led to the growth and prosperity of commerce and trade. Prospect Park was officially incorporated in 1894. The Pastor of Prospect Hill Baptist Church, Reverend Mark Watkinson, persuaded the U.S. Congress to engrave all U.S. currency with the motto "In God We Trust".

The National Museum of American Jewish History houses a collection of more than 10,000 artifacts depicting the history of American Jewish life. The American Swedish Historical Museum features exhibits reflecting the Swedish-American cultural heritage, while the Afro-American Historical and Cultural Museum showcases the cultural and historical background of African-Americans. Prospect Park also offers easy access to several historic sites like the Gloria Dei Church National Historic Site, Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation, Edgar Allan Poe National Historic Site, Brandywine Battlefield, Fort Mifflin, and Walt Whitman House. Independence National Historical Park, encompassing the Independence Hall, Liberty Bell, and Benjamin Franklin National Memorial, is also close by.
