Greenwood History
The town of Greenwood was established in the year 1824. The town’s name, Green Wood, was suggested by an early settler, John McGehee’s wife. When the community grew, the inhabitants of the city desired incorporation. The town was finally incorporated in 1857. Later that year, Greenwood was chartered as the county seat of Greenwood
