Introduction to Erwin, Tennessee
Erwin, Tennessee, in Unicoi county, is 12 miles S of Johnson City, Tennessee and 108 miles NW of Charlotte, North Carolina. The city is part of the Johnson City-Kingsport-Bristol metropolitan statistical area. About 5,610 people live in Erwin.
Erwin History
The town of Erwin is the county seat of Unicoi country. It was formerly known as Greasy Cove. Erwin was officially incorporated in 1879. It was named in honor of D.J.N. Ervin, who donated land for establishing the county seat. The town got its present name due to a typographical error by post office officials.

Rotary Park and Willow Springs Park provide amenities for several different types of recreational activities. Local celebrations include the Unicoi County Apple Festival and the National Storytelling Festival. One can also visit the Play it Again Laser Storm family amusement park while in Erwin.
