Erwin, Tennessee, in Unicoi county, is 12 miles S of Johnson City, Tennessee and 108 miles NW of Charlotte, North Carolina. The city is part of the Johnson City-Kingsport-Bristol metropolitan statistical area.
Erwin History
The town of Erwin is the county seat of Unicoi country. It was formerly known as Greasy Cove. Erwin was officially incorporated in 1879. It was named in honor of D.J.N. Ervin, who donated land for establishing the county seat. The town got its present name due to a typographical error by post office officials.
