Introduction to Alvin, Texas
Alvin, Texas, in Brazoria county, is 18 miles S of Pasadena, Texas and 24 miles S of Houston, Texas. The people of the city are in the Brazoria metropolitan area. Alvin's population is 21,413.
Alvin History
The area now known as Alvin was first settled in the mid 1800s. At this time, bull ranches were set up in the region. With the construction of the Santa Fe Railroad, settlements were established around it. The town was incorporated in the year 1893. During World War II, German POWs were held near this community. Alvin is the oldest incorporated communities in Brazoria county.

While in Alvin, one can visit the 1940 Air Terminal Museum, the Brazoria County Museum, the San Jacinto Monument and Museum and the Space Center Houston. The Nolan Ryan Center showcases exhibits featuring photos, videos and a hall of records. The Armand Bayou Nature Center, Galveston Island State Park and Hermann Park are among the other popular tourist destinations near the city of Alvin.
