Borger, Texas, in Hutchinson county, is 39 miles NE of Amarillo, Texas and 218 miles W of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. There are 14,302 residents in the city.

Borger History

The land where the city of Borger stands today was first settled in permanently in 1898 by John F. Weatherly, a rancher. He built a dugout and named the town Granada. Weatherly opened a store in his ranch house in 1900, which later became the post office. The first Panhandle oil near the region was drilled on May 2, 1921. The city charter was adopted in October of 1926.
