Introduction to Levelland, Texas
Levelland is the main city of the Levelland Micropolitan Statistical Area. It was so named due to its flat terrain. The area was first settled in the 1800s. In November 1957, the city was the site of a series of UFO sightings. A number of motorists driving around Levelland claimed they saw a large egg-shaped object emitting a blue glow which shut off their automobiles. However, the United States Air Force explained that it was a severe electrical storm that caused the sightings and was also the result of the auto failure.
