Marlin, Texas, in Falls county, is 22 miles SE of Waco, Texas (center to center) and 87 miles NE of Austin, Texas . The city has a population of 6,628.

Marlin History

This region was established in 1834 by Sterling Clack Robertson at the site of Sarahville de Viesca. The town was named in the memory of pioneer and patriot John Marlin. Later his son-in-law, Samuel A. Blain, plotted the city, and a church and school were built. Marlin was incorporated in 1867; this milestone was followed by the completion of the Houston and Texas Central Railway in 1871. Over the years Marlin became famous as a tourist spot complete with hotels, banks and post offices.

Things To Do In Marlin

The Earle-Harrison House & Gardens is a historic site with a Greek style mansion built in the mid-19th century. Mayborn Museum and Taylor Museum of Waco History have exhibits of historic and scientific interest. Other places of interest nearby are Fairfield Lake State Park, Fort Parker State Park, Mother Neff State Park, and Lake Whitney State Park where visitors may go camping, boating, fishing, swimming, mountain biking, and hiking.
