Rio Grande City, Texas, in Starr county, is 38 miles W of McAllen, Texas (center to center) and 131 miles SW of Corpus Christi, Texas. The city is home to some 11,923 residents.
Rio Grande City History
Rio Grande City was originally settled in 1846. Henry Clay Davis, a soldier of the Mexican-American war, married Hilaria de la Garza Falcon and settled in the area now known as Rio Grande City. In order to organize the area into a city, Davis subdivided the land into plots after the war ended. Initially, the area was known as Rancho Davis. Later on, it was renamed Rio Grande City. The Texas Mexican Railroad first entered the city in 1883.

Rio Grande City offers the opportunity to enjoy a variety of recreational activities. You can visit the Fort Ringgold Historic Site and Primera Iglesia Bautista Church during your leisure hours. The Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge, Bentson-Rio Grande Valley State Park, and Falcon State Park are also worth visiting. The city offers numerous shopping centers and restaurants. Apart from these, Rio Grande City also organizes a number of recreational events throughout the year.
