Snyder, Texas is 71 miles W of Abilene, Texas (center to center) and 209 miles W of Fort Worth, Texas. It is in Scurry county. The population of the city is 10,783.

Snyder History

The city has its roots in the trading post that buffalo hunter and trader, William Henry (Pete) Snyder, built in the locality in 1878. Other traders and hunters soon followed him and settled in the region. Snyder drew a plan for a town in 1882 and invited immigrants to settle in the area. The initial dwellings were mostly buffalo hide houses that earned the area the name Hide Town.
