Began in 1904 as Jom, TX when a ranch owner built a cotton gin so they could get cotton seed to feed cattle. The town became Woodson after the United States Post Office placed that name on the local post office at Wood and Son's grocery. The town's sons fought in both world wars and every conflict thereafter.
The population boomed with the 1920's oil boom to a population estimated by some to be 11,000 when the #1 Stubblefield well was drilled. This well did make over one millon barrels of oil. The population has declined slowly as oil and agriculture have faded.
Today the town's social life revolves around the local grocery store and its coffee pot, the school and its sports, including six-man football played by the Woodson Cowboys and volleyball teams fielded by the Woodson Cowgirls, and its three very active churches. Oil is still produced and so is wheat and beef. There is also manufacturing activity at Jones Trailer.

Good site for fishing and hunting. I think I would like the peace and quiet there...now. I was bored with peace and quiet as a teen-ager. The only distinction in neighborhoods is the one that exists between the town itself, and the surrounding farm/ranch land.
Woodson is a great place to raise a family, by personal experience. I was raised in Woodson, and would not trade my childhood for any amount of money!
