Heber History

The city of Heber is located in Wasatch County. It is also its county seat. The community was settled in by James Davis, Robert Broadhead and James Gurr in the year 1859. The first house in the area was built by John W. Witt. It was under Bishop Silas Smith’s direction, who was in Provo. Joseph S. Murdock became the bishop in 1860, in Heber City and vicinity, over the Latter-day Saints.

Deer Creek State Park, Jordanelle State Park and Wasatch Mountain State Park offer multiple opportunities for recreation. The Historic Herber Valley Railroad is a notable location in the community. Travelers may also visit churches like The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Saint Lawrence Catholic Church, and Mountain Valley Baptist Chapel. The Wasatch County Library offers a host of reading materials to the avid readers. The city hosts the Wasatch County Fair in the months of July and August.
