As more people look to further their education, online degree programs provide another option to access higher education. Advantages of online education include courses with flexible scheduling and the ability to access programs and degrees that may not be available locally. Colleges with online degrees have programs in Art and Design, Business and Management, Computer Science, Medical Administration and Support, Therapy and Counseling and much more. Online courses work very similar to campus-based courses; except for the fact that students access the classroom over the internet.
Most online degree programs have student portals that are used to access lectures and download assignments. Chat sessions are then used to promote student-teacher and student-student interactions. For some classes, a minimum amount of participation in these sessions is required. For lectures, some courses have set times that students must attend, while other courses have flexible scheduling where students can download the lectures and study on their own time. To take exams, some courses allow students to submit tests through the portal (or email) by a specific time. In other courses, students are required to take tests online during a set time period. For online colleges that have campuses in Utah, some classes also allow students to access teachers on campus.
Even if you live in a city with multiple college options like Salt Lake City or Provo, colleges with online degree programs may still be a great option for you. To save you time, we have compiled a list of local colleges that offer online programs along with national colleges offering courses to students in Utah. Be sure to ask several questions when speaking with an admissions counselor. In terms of online education, some good questions include how do students access their classes, how much opportunity do students have to interact with teachers and fellow students and how do students typically take exams online.
Accreditations and affiliations: when speaking with an admissions counselor be sure to ask about the types of accreditations and affiliations the school has completed.
