Introduction to Payson, Utah
Payson, Utah, in Utah county, is located 13 miles S of Provo, Utah (center to center) and is 325 miles NE of Las Vegas, Nevada. The city is considered part of the Provo - Orem metropolitan area. Payson has a population of 12,716 residents.
Payson History
Payson was originally inhabited by the Ute Indians. It first settled in 1850 by the Mormon pioneers. In fact, the city was also named after a Mormon pioneer called James Pace in 1851. Prior to that, it was known as Peteetneet Creek. The city was incorporated on 21 January 1853. The first high school of Payson was established in 1873. However, the school was closed down in 1876. The first opera house of the city was built in 1883.

While in Payson travelers can pay a visit to the Dup Museum and Historical Society and UVSC Woodbury Art Museum. The Utah Lake State Park and Whitby Beach offer a wide variety of recreational opportunities. The city also includes a number of churches such as the San Andres Catholic Church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and Payson Bible Chapel. The Bridal Veil Falls is less than an hour's drive away. One can also visit the Payson Skate Park. The Gladstan Golf Course provides excellent facilities for golf enthusiasts.
