In 1888, the Atlantic and Danville Railroad was completed, and a space in the thick wood was cleared to build the depot. The placed was called "Princeton", then changed the same year to "Capron". A saw mill and dry kiln were built, providing jobs and the people came.
The first house built in Capron sits on Main street and is listed as a Historic place. It, along with J.T. Barham's store were built in 1888. The town was incorporated in 1927, but little has changed. "Pete" Barham, grandson of J.T. Barham, now runs the Store located on Main Street. The First house built in Capron, The Vincent house, still is in use as a private resident. The train depot is still standing, but the train does not stop anymore.
Several Qeen Ann Victorians sit on Main street. This quiet community is located just off of Hwy 58 in Southampton County and is about an hours drive from Norfolk, Va and about a 20 minute drive to North Carolina.
