Medicine Bow is a small town that sits on the high plains of southeastern Wyoming over 6000 feet above sea level.
With a population of about 300, Medicine Bow is the kind of place where just about everyone knows everyone and everyplace is within walking distance. The schools and the community are safe as evidenced by low crime rates. Housing prices, rents and property taxes are affordable.
Medicine Bow has a relatively cold, windy climate with a short growing season of a little over 3 months. Winter temperatures bottom out in January with average temperatures below 20F. In July, the average temperature is around 65F. While there are lots of cold days, there are also many sunny ones as well. The wind in and around Medicine Bow is harvested for electrical energy.
Most visitors come to Medicine Bow for outdoor activities such as hiking, hunting and camping. There is an annual Fishing Derby on East Allen Lake held every Father’s Day weekend.
