Allegheny College was established in 1815. It is a private college of liberal arts and is situated in Meadville Pennsylvania. The campus of the institution is spread across an area of more than 540 acres. Several major and minor degrees are awarded in the fields of Art and Technology, Biochemistry, Communication Arts and Theatre, French Studies, and Science among others. The students body includes an impressive number of international students representing various countries around the world.

Allegheny College’s athletics department fields more than 15 men's and women's sports teams. They compete in the North Coast Athletic Conference. The teams are nicknamed as the Gators. They participate in a number of sports which include basketball, cross country, soccer, golf, and football.

Allegheny can be found in Meadville, PA (a town not particularly near any major cities). One of the defining characteristics of the school is its status as a United Methodist school. Allegheny is a private, not-for-profit institution. The Bachelor's degree is the highest degree at the school.

Allegheny Selectivity

The school does not have an open admissions system. Not everyone who applies is accepted. Only 25% of students scored 550 or lower in 2007-2008 on the verbal SAT test. Math SAT scores at Allegheny centered around 560 to 650, but ranged both higher and lower.

Faculty

Classes at the school are less crowded than at many schools. A tenure system is one way Allegheny works to keep a high-quality staff. Instructors at the school are well-paid.
