American International College, established in 1885 and often referred to as AIC, is a co-educational, private, liberal arts college located in Springfield, Massachusetts, United States. It was named as French Protestant College at the time of its founding. The college offers associate degrees and bachelor's degrees in various educational streams.
American International College is organized into four schools, namely:
The sports teams of American International College are known as the AIC Yellow Jackets. The official mascot of the college is the Yellow Jacket. The men and women from AIC compete in intercollegiate basketball, lacrosse, football, beseball, ice hockey, wrestling, tennis, softball and many other sports events. The college has a dedicated cheerleading squad. Students are also encouraged to take part in various intramural sports.
Students attend American International in Springfield, MA, a medium-sized city. The school is a private, not-for-profit institution. American International degrees go up to the Doctoral degree.
The range of program offerings available from the school is especially impressive compared to its number of students. American International is known for its programs in therapy and counseling and security and law enforcement.
The school is selective and does not offer open admission. Three quarters of students in 2007 had SAT verbal scores of at least 430. Half of math SAT scores of accepted students fell between 440 and 570. Many applicants are from out of state, an indication of the quality or special character of the school.
American International has a tenure system for senior faculty.
