Arizona State University is the largest public research university in the United States. It has four campuses located across the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. ASU originally opened as the Tempe Normal School for the Arizona Territory in Tempe, Arizona, in 1885. After a few name and status changes, it became Arizona State University on December 5, 1958. ASU offers over 250 majors to undergraduate students and more than 100 graduate programs leading to masters and doctoral degrees. The academic divisions of the university are:
ASU has an active student life. Its sports teams are nicknmaed the Sun Devils. The State Press is the student-run newspaper of the university.
